- Etymology of “Mentoring”

Mentor is a character from Homer’s Greek epic poem,the Odyssey.
It originated from Mentor, a close friend of King Odysseus, who cared for the king’s inexperienced son Telemachus while he went to fight in wars. Mentor served as a teacher, an advisor, and a father figure and fostered Telemachus to become a fine man.
